The History of Clothes

Clothing is important to people for many diverse reasons. One of the reasons that people choose to dress a certain way is because of religion. Most religions wish for their followers to dress modestly although the definition of this differs from nearly full-body covering to just making sure that certain parts are covered such as shoulders and knees.

Today, attire is important to protect against certain physical conditions, one thing that straight away comes to mind is weather. Imagine having to dress in a tight corset with huge skirts down to the floor just like woman did in Victorian times on a hot summer's day. It just would not be comfortable, so today if it is cold you wrap up in jumpers and scarves and if it is hot you have the option of shorts and t-shirts to keep you as cool as possible. As well as clothing types and styles, different materials that have evolved have made clothing more comfortable. Also, materials have been produced that are suited to certain activities such as cycling shorts made of elastane or spandex.

When you think of clothing you imagine the type of things you wear everyday but it is used in other cases such as protection during hazardous situations. So, if you were preparing to cook you would put on an apron or if you were going hiking you would need certain types of jackets and gloves.

Clothes are made and mass-produced in many retail shops so everybody can browse and purchase fashion for great prices. These shops attempt to re-create and copy designer items from recent runways so remains the best way to find the newest pieces without having to spend a fortune. Although buying yourself a designer piece every now and again could be a nice treat if that is your favourite area to splurge on. Clothes are a fascinating thing to explore the history of; even looking back at your old childhood photos will give you a laugh at what you used to wear! You will be asking your parents what on earth they were thinking but I am sure they will reply saying that they dressed you well and at the time you looked fashionable.
